I finally put a picture up.  I couldn't resist, the clouds broke this afternoon and Malan's Peak came out in all it new snow glory, so I snapped this picture from town.  I write so much about running Malan's Peak I thought I would put up a pic so the couple of people who actually read this once in a while can get an idea what this run is like.  The image is kind of small, but if you look close I marked the approximae route. The trail starts a few blocks from my door and it is about 2250 vertical in a little less than 2.5 miles, most of the vert comes in the last 1.5 miles, when you leave Taylor Canyon and head south up to the peak.  I've run this so much this winter that I have started to feel a real attachment to the place.

Hey Bryce, I like the picture of Malan's. I have wanted to do it for a long time, but it is a bit out of the way for me. I live in American Fork, and work in Midvale. I would love to join you sometime for a run up to the summit. It sounds like a great workout.

I just noticed your profile says you used to be a climber and competitive cyclist...sounds familiar. Do you still bike at all? What turned you to running?

Thanks Scott, it's a great run. It would be awsome to have you come up. the trail's a little dicy right now, kinda bewteen snow packed and slush. should be good if it gets really cold again or in a couple of weeks when it melts out. Seems liek I usually go in the evening, but could work a run in whenit works for you.

Yes, I still have a really high end bike, which is sad because mostly it sits in the corner these days. Last summer I started running consistantly and the more I went the more I liked it, like alot of folks, I hated running when I was 1st learning. I ran my first ultra Squaw Peak 50 mile, and from that point on I have biked very little. I just love being off the roads and in the hills on the trails, just feels right. Oddly,I hate mtn biking. If I'm off road I like to be on my feet. I plan to xtrain 1-2x p/week this summer on my bike, we'll see. How about you, still biking as much or is runnnig sucking you in?

I don't bike as much right now, partly because its winter, partly because running is sucking me in. But I do get out once or twice per week usually.

We'll see what happens this summer. I love mt. biking and road biking. But I'm getting ready to get a new mt. bike, and this summer I plan to be in the mountains consistently running and biking.

I signed up for my first 50K and 50 Mile trail races though, and I'm much more intrigued by long distance running at this point and getting really antsy to start running the peaks around my house. So I'm going to bet I'll put a lot more time running in this year than biking. But I still love biking, and I really like to mix things up rather than just always doing 1 or the other hobby or exercise.

in 06 and 07 all I did was bike, and I did LOTOJA both of those years and really enjoyed it. But I'm enjoying trail running much more than that I have to admit.

I could go after work. How much notice do you need? How long will it take? This looks like the perfect training peak and I may want to add it to my workouts. My wifes has family in Ogden, so I would just climb this when I am down there. Let me know.

Scott, Afternoon/evening after work is when I usually go so that is perfect. A day or two notice is good. Trail's been nasty slushy lately. I'm most likely going on Thursay PM, if you want to go that's great, or I will let you know how conditons are and we could go later sometime. Would be great to have you along when you can.
